      " Ebenezer Felch was born July 20, 1701, in Reading; he married to MaryBacon, of Needham, May 15 1728, and removed to Natick in 1723. At thistime Natick was only an Indian town, and he was the fourth white settler;tradition says he came as assistant superintendent of the Indians whothen, had not arrived at that state of civilization when they can beconsidered self-governing. Natick the Indian name for " Place of Hills " In1731-'2 he was employed as a teacher in the public school; in June 1745,he Was Town Clerk of Natick, which office he held for fifteen years; healso filled other town offices. During the ministry of Rev. O. Peabodywhich commenced in 1741, he held the office of Deacon. His home was inthe northern part of the town, and it still remains in possession of hisdescendants ;here he reared his family, three sons and one daughter. Hecontinued to hold town offices until 1757, but there is no record of hisdeath, nor of his place of burial. His eldest son John succeeded him inall the various town offices,--selectman, assessor; school committee, andteacher in the public school.

      Mary, only daughter of Ebenezer died Aug 6 , 1813 unmarried. EbenezerFelch. 1701-1779. Son of John. Born at " Reading July 20, 1701. MarriedMay 15, 1728, Mary, daughter of Stephen Bacon. He went to Natick in 1723,being the fourth white Settler there. It is said that he went there asassistant superintendent of Indians. Natick-place of hills " -wasestablished by John Eliot, the " apostle to the Indians, " in 1650. Therehe gather'd 'his converts together and founded, in 1650,the first churchof Christian Indians in America. Natick was an lndian village for nearlya century. The first records of the settlement were kept in the Indianlanguage. Ebenezer Felch was the first white deacon of John Eliots IndianChurch being elected to that office by the Indians April 29 1731. TheJohn Eliot church is still at Natick, and there still stands theapostle's famous oak tree, but the red men are all gone. Civilization andChristianity did not agree with them. There were, it is said, five of theNatick Indians living in 1792 and one last Indian as late as 1855.Ebenezer Felch was teacher of the public school at Natick and was also asurveyor, assessor, the first selectman, moderator of town meetings andthe first town clerk. He held this latter office for fifteen years or upto the time of his departure fur Nova Scotia. His Son, John, succeededhim as Town clerk at Natick and in most of his other offices. HenryEvans, Ebenezer Felch and David Bent constituted a deputation sent in1759, from Massachusetts Bay province to the province of Nova Scotia, toconfer with Governor Lawrence in reference to a grant of Land. He becameone of the grantees of the Township of Annapolis, N. S., in 1759. Thiswas-known as the Felch-Evans grant. He was one of the company whichsettled from Boston for Annapolis May 17, 1760, by the Charming Molly. " There were 45 emigrant passengers by this vessel and a considerablenumber of Horses and Cattle. Both before and after his emigration to NovaScotia he transferred various Parsels of land in Natick to his sons Johnand Daniel. Daniel Felch settled in Nova Scotia with his father. Eachsettler had apportioned to him a lot of 500 acres of " Forest primeval " inaddition to a portion of the cultivated marsh and upland which had beenpreviously the French inhabitants-the unfortunate Canadians of the landof " Longfellows Evangeline " In 1770 Ebenezer was entered in the censusreturns of Township Annapolis as holding 748 acres of land, and his sonDaniel 642. He died in Annapolis county 1779
